the editors live at the nia birmingham 29th feb 2008
its been a long time since jan and I have been to a proper ‘gig’ – the last one (not counting jose gonzales) was James about 10 years ago.
Jan wasnt really that keen – especially as we were both feeling rubbish (full of man-flu) but we made the effort; one of this years new years resolutions was to ‘collect experiences’ – and this really promised to be one !
so, we headed into town, went for a meal (great vegetarian cafe – the warehouse cafe recommended by ranjna) – then headed over to the NIA… this is a pretty big arena, and although it wasnt full, it seemed a really enthusiastic crowd. Jan was pleased to see other people our age, as she was convinced we would be the oldest there. i’m sure whe is getting concerned about growing old.
after a bit of a wait – they finally came on around 9.30 (past our usual bedtime
) … they were fantastic, such powerful music. now, i realise it has something to do with the massive speakers all over the stage, but you really can feel it. they rattled through all of their songs, and despite a few been ‘fillers’, they really do have some amazing songs. one of the best parts of the evening came at every upbeat song, when a couple of guys in front of us would sping to ther feet and wave their arms around and generally dance like a dad at a wedding – so glad i had the wife to hold me down.
as i said, some amazing songs, but for me the highlight was definately ‘racing rats’ a true anthem, performed brilliantly.
overall, a great night, and a fantastic experience… when we got in the car, there was some neil diamond on the radio – now then, when is he next in concert………………………

“…when a couple of guys in front of us would sping to their feet…”
You mean it was a sit down concert?
That’s just so rock n’ roll!
It was both, its a massive arena so there were a fare few seats around the edge.
most of it was standing though.
It was a gr8 gig set highlights included:
Munich
Racing rats
Fingers
Smokers
the lighting and the screens were amazing aswel, they made for a good spectacle.
the crowd were insane, I was right near the front singing and jumping to every song (even the slower ones)
all in all it was a terrific night, can’t wait to see them nxt week at the ally pally in london
I was there too. Excellent band with maudling, depressing lyrics which are uplifted by the soaring guitar and excellent vocals. Saw them c18 months ago at Wolverhampton Civic and i enjoyed this more. NIA is just too big and I had a headache and I can’t cope with the seats (ageing rocker problems I am afraid). By way of contrast, we went to Symphony hall on the Friday after – a much more sedate experience without the headache but the Editors are much more my style!
